Discover the savanna

Our expedition begins before dawn as our 4×4 vehicles Rum across the open plains. The air is fresh and cool, filled with the sounds of the landscape waking up. Our local guide stops to point out animal tracks leaving intricate messages in the red dirt. We see where elephants crossed, the zig-zag pattern of a sprinting gazelle, and the rounded pads of a stealthy lion.

As the sun rises, colors spread across the horizon. Off in the distance, silhouettes of acacia trees dot the landscape. Our guide stops the vehicle and cuts the engine. In the stillness, we hear a strange guttural call in the trees. Grabbing our binoculars, we spot a troupe of baboons with one male calling out his territorial warning.

Driving further, we enter a dense thicket near a watering hole. Moving silently, we peek through the bushes and see a family of warthogs and their piglets drinking from the muddy edge. Suddenly, a shadowy figure emerges from the trees – a lone lioness stealthily approaches the shoreline. We hold our breath as she pounces, successfully catching an unsuspecting warthog! Nature has treated us to a rare display of hunting skills.

The afternoon brings more remarkable discoveries. We encounter a herd of sleek zebras galloping at top speed just for the joy of it. Overhead, a pair of fish eagles soars on thermals, their calls echoing across the open space. As the sun sinks low, the sky transforms in brilliant hues. Our guide stops the vehicle one last time, and in the stillness we listen to the sounds of this magical place, and feel truly privileged to have discovered some of the savanna’s mysteries today. Our expedition begins before dawn as our 4×4 vehicles Rum across the open plains.
