African adventure

Our journey begins in Kenya as our small plane touches down on a remote airstrip near the Maasai Mara Reserve. We’re met by our driver who takes us to our camp nestled against the rolling grasslands. After settling in, we set off on our first game drive just as the sun is setting. Within moments, a large herd of cape buffalo emerge to drink from a nearby watering hole under the watchful eye of some lionesses.

The next morning, we wake before dawn to continue our search. It isn’t long before we come across two male cheetahs dragging their fresh kill up a tree to keep it safe from scavengers. With full stomachs, they climb high up and lazily yawn as the sun comes up.

After a few days exploring the Mara, soaking in the hot springs feels like a treat before flying south to Botswana’s Okavango Delta. We spend a week drifting among the papyrus-filled waterways of this vast inland delta in search of elephants, hippos, and rare birds like shoebill storks. One afternoon, a family of playful otters swims by our boat, tumbling over each other.

Our next stop is Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. While on an evening drive we find ourselves surrounded by about 12 hungry lions lying under the trees. We sit perfectly still, watching them decide if it’s worth investigating our vehicle for a potential meal. After letting out a few spine-tingling roars, they finally disperse into the bushes for the night.

With so many magical wildlife encounters under our belts, we end our epic overland journey on the beaches of Cape Town, South Africa. While the crashing waves and seabirds call, we reminisce about our adventures together and the unforgettable memories made across this wild continent.
