Family Safari

The Johnson family of 5 was excited for their upcoming week-long safari in South Africa. Mom, Dad, 12-year-old Timmy, 10-year-old Sally, and 8-year-old Johnny packed their suitcases with clothes, hiking boots, binoculars, and cameras in preparation.

After a long international flight, they arrived refreshed at their safari lodge located right in the heart of Kruger National Park. Their room had a perfect view of the savannah, where they immediately spotted zebras, impalas, and wildebeests grazing in the distance.

After settling in, they went on their first game drive in an open-top jeep led by their guide Abraham. On that initial adventure, they saw a family of playful lion cubs, massive herds of buffalo, and even a leopard high up in an acacia tree. The kids’ eyes were as wide as saucers taking it all in.

Over the next few days, the drives got even better. One afternoon, they happened upon an epic battle between a lone male lion and a group of hyenas trying to steal his fresh kill. Another day, they found a proud silverback gorilla with his harem and tiny babies in the dense jungle.

By the end of the week, Timmy, Sally and Johnny had learned so much about Africa’s incredible wildlife. They even spotted the “Big 5” – lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and Cape buffalo. As the family sat around the campfire under the stars on their last night, they all agreed this was the adventure of a lifetime that they would remember forever. While the sights surprised and amazed them, what they found most remarkable was the close-up views of animals in their natural habitats. The safari had been an unforgettable family experience they would cherish always.
