Wildlife adventure

We wake up just as the sun is rising over the open plains, its warm orange glow stretching across the tall grass as far as the eye can see. After a quick breakfast around the campfire, we pack our supplies into our trusted 4×4 vehicle and begin driving across the vast landscape. The air is fresh and cool, filled with the sounds of unfamiliar birds singing their morning songs.

As we drive, our guide points out animal tracks in the dirt – prints from lions, elephants, antelope and more that passed through in the night. It’s not long before we spot some creatures of our own. In the distance, a herd of zebras graze peacefully while keeping a watchful eye out for predators. Closer to our path, a lone giraffe stretches its long neck up high, munching on acacia leaves. We pause to observe it for a while, marveling at its incredible stature.

Deeper into the reserve, we come upon a watering hole tucked between some rocky hills. All around the edge sit families of baboons, the babies playing while the adults take their turn drinking. Our guide cuts the engine so we can watch quietly and not disturb them. That’s when we notice a small group has wandered down to the water’s edge, and not far behind trots an elegant lioness. She pauses, surveying the situation as she decides whether or not to hunt. We hold our breath, not wanting to interfere with nature taking its course.

After an hour at the watering hole, our guide starts the vehicle again so we can continue on. As we roll across the open grasslands, more animals make appearances – a snake slithering through the brush, a ostrich running at top speed just for fun, and herds of colorful gazelles leaping gracefully. The sky begins to change hues as the sun passes its peak, painting the savannah in shades of yellow and orange. It’s been an amazing wildlife adventure thanks to all the incredible species we were fortunate enough to observe up close in their natural African habitat.
